There are different ways that you can adopt to improve your night fishing techniques in order to gather a better catch upon nightfall. Some of this will be a mix between experience and skill, while others can be acquired through trial and error. A major method in which to see your chances of larger catch in darkness would boil down to the type of lures and tackles used. Heavier lures will help to not only attract the fish that stay further below the surface, but makes it easier to reel them back in when they catch on. It might make little difference if the fish are active at night since they will rise towards the surface naturally when that happen. It might thus be prudent to have a mixture of the two in the gear you bring for your expedition.
Another way to get better at night fishing is to try to test as many different spots as possible. Some spots might result in seeing a more active fish population, while others can yield nothing no matter how often you try. Through experience, one can narrow down the various areas in which to fish and practise. If there is nothing worth spending your time on in one spot, then try your luck with another. There is also the important matter of light equipment used at each occasion. Try not to bring too many lighting equipment or use them too often. Night fish are unsurprisingly frightened off by such glares and even dimmer lights might be too sensitive for them. You will still need them to provide safety, but otherwise keep their usage low and only when necessary.
