So, you have decided to pack up and move all of your things to a new house. The first thing that comes to mind is – stress! Actually, most people that have moved at least once in their lifetime rate it as one of the most stressful experiences in their lives. Therefore, it is important to be well prepared for the big move so that it goes off without a hitch.
Step 1 – Pick a date and stick to it. Many people have problems with their move because it creeps up on them and they don’t have anything planned. Having a set date means that you are much more likely to do everything you need to and be well prepared.
Step 2 – Make all the necessary arrangements. If you planning on doing all the work yourself make sure that your moving truck rental is booked well in advance. Also have all of your personal belongings packed into boxes as soon as you can. Remember to notify all of your utilities that you are moving and update to your new address (if you already know it). Write a checklist of everything you need to do before you move to make this easier.
Step 3 – Get some help. Not everyone can afford professional help, but it is a great idea to ask friends or family for a hand when moving day comes around. This might involve packing boxes, loading the truck, cleaning the house or anything else. It doesn’t matter if they can only help for an hour – every little bit helps. You could even offer to take them to dinner as a reward for all their help.
Being prepared for moving isn’t difficult, but it can be tempting to put everything off until the last minute. By being well organized you can be sure that you will have a stress free moving day.
