I just graduate college in May. Since then, I have started a job, visited 4 new countries on three continents, earned more per month than I ever have before, and generally had a good time. It’s been a little crazy, but it’s been interesting.
Nowhere has the interestingness been more obvious than when it comes to money. As I said before, I earn a good salary. So, imagine my surprise when I look in my bank account today and find that I have almost no money left. This was remedied by a transfer from another account, but I really thought I would have had more money. Where had it all gone?
As I’ve learned from reading a lot of financial advice for young people, the key to saving money is to be conscious with your spending. That is what I failed to do. I was spending on scuba gear/classes, eating out, and a myriad of other expenses. None of them big by themselves, but they added up quite quickly to something major. In the future, I will monitor what I am spending much more closely to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. With the amount I make, I need to be saving, not spending.
